Children's book author workshop: Roseanne Thong

Hong Kong's Society of Children's Book Writers & Illustrators (SCBWI) organised a Picture Book Intensive Workshop by award-winning author and educator, Roseanne Thong. Roseanne's intensive workshop covered five of the most popular picture book genres, for beginners and experienced writers.

Author Talk: A Perspective on Chinese Footbinding

Chinese footbinding expert and author, Dr Shirley See Yan Ma, talked to WiPS about the controversial tradition carried out by generations of Chinese women to restrict and bind their feet. Dr Ma took us on a literary, psychological and Jungian journey on the symbolism of the practice. Her book Footbinding: A Jungian Engagement with Chinese Culture and Psychology draws on personal history, popular myths, literature, and work with clients, and discusses how modern women still symbolically find their feet bound through this ancient practice.

IMPRINT 2010 Launch

The launch of WiPS' annual anthology IMPRINT took place in great style at The China Club, Hong Kong. The event was attended by contributors and guests alike. Celebrated speaker and Hong Kong raconteur, Nury Vittachi,  toasted WiPS and IMPRINT 2010, while prizes were presented by Matt Steele of Dymocks to our Student Competition winners.

The Heart of the Buddha novelist talks with WiPS

Elsie Sze talked about her latest book, The Heart of the Buddha, which brings to life the behind-the-scenes story of a vanished young woman. Many members and friends took advantage of the discounted book price offered at this event and went home with their own copies.
